"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others"
Illinois has a long and strong tradition of volunteerism and community service. Today, the path of service is more important than ever. The Serve Illinois Commission’s mission is to improve Illinois communities by enhancing traditional volunteer activities and supporting national service programs.
To support this vision for service and civic engagement in Illinois, one that encourages and provides opportunities for all Illinoisans to serve, the Serve Illinois Foundation helps make Illinois a global leader in service and volunteerism.
The Serve Illinois Foundation will support traditional volunteer activities throughout the State of Illinois, serving as a bullhorn for the call to service. The Foundation will support efforts in volunteerism promotion, through public service announcements and media campaigns. The Foundation will help recognize the work of Illinois’ volunteers and national service participants, through the National Service Recognition Day and the Governor’s Volunteer Service Awards. Finally, the Foundation will support the promotion of community-engaging service programs throughout the State, engaging and inspiring Illinoisans in service.
